Description
Keeley Modded Boss DD-3 Digital Delay!

There are two parts to this mod. First, "SWITCHABLE ANALOG FEEL" and then and EFFECTS LOOP! Players can now take the industry standard compact delay and select between 2 different smoothing caps that give it an analog delay feel or set it for the stock sound! All of this via a small three way toggle switch. We transform the Direct Out of the stock BOSS DD-3 and convert it into an effects loop so that you can add any effect to Just the Repeats!!! Imagine adding slight chorus or phase to the signal so that you can simulate tape effects, warble, wobble, or any other vintage/modern effect you can dream up! You'd be hard pressed to find another delay pedal that gives you this amount of creativity.

Listen for what the DD-3 Mod does best, the repeats have the effected tone! The signal will get more and more flanged while the original guitar signal still has nice attack and is meaty! Serious tone, serious possibilities!

The 3 Way switch offers you two settings that give you an Analog Feel to the repeats. They are softer and more soothing to the ear. This can inspire playing as you get a more natural response. One setting offers a slight rounding of the high end frequency response. The second offers you a bit more roll off that sounds very good, in fact I prefer this one for nearly everything. Lastly, you can select the stock DD-3 sound so you can get very long repeats of crystal clear clarity.

The next part of the modded pedal is really where things happen! We have taken the Direct Out and made it a TRS cable jack. This becomes your effects loop. The Direct output no longer functions with our mod. So, no two amp setup with this pedal, get our Framptone Amp Switcher ;-) !!!

From the pictures you can see a Chorus pedal connected to the loop. You original guitar signal stays clean and unaffected. The repeats however get more and more "chorused"!!!! Insert mulitple effects and you get more modulation heaven! Use a autowah and each repeat gets more and more "wahed"...use a pitch shifter and each repeated sound gets more "pitch shifted"!

This offers a very subtle and SUPER useful array of sounds. You are not in a wash of effects, you are creating music with a perfect amount of modulation or other effects applied to your delay. You can get beautiful waterfall sounds. Slight phasing and flanging sounds incredible and again inspires you to make more music! Add another delay to the lop and you get a cool asynchronous repeat that turns to a cool stutter and motor-boating. Add a tremolo and you can get some great swells, almost a slow gear effect!

What is really interesting is comparing the use of these same effects in series, instead of the loop....not very musical as things get too "effected". This is a perfect solution for creating your "own" sounds and tones generally only possible in studios or having your own engineer on hand!

This mod includes a TRS cable. (The other pedals and George L cables are only shown to give you examples.)

The supplied TRS cable gives you two plugs that serve as Send and Receive (or IN and OUT if you prefer).

We have experimented with 3, 4, 5, 6 effects including overdrive, distortion, and an EQ pedal in the loop all with stunning results. Your imagination is the only limit.

Keeley DD3 Mod

Introduction to the World’s Finest Analog-voiced Digital Delay

Howdy! And THANK YOU for the purchase of our DD-3 modification. This now-modded DD-3 pedal provides a fantastic amount of control over the sound and character of the repeats. You’d be hard pressed to find another delay pedal that offers you this much of creative potential because the newly installed three-way switch offers two distinct analog-feel settings. Repeats generated via analog circuitry are usually regarded as softer and more soothing to the ear, which can inspire a player’s delivery due to the more natural sounding response.

The left position offers a slight rounding of the high end frequency response. The right position offers bit more roll off, a tone that sounds very good. In fact, I prefer this one for nearly everything. Lastly, and just in case you’d like things as they were, you can select the mid position for the stock DD-3--very long repeats of crystal clarity as only a digital delay can provide..

The next part of the modded pedal is where things really begin to happen! We have taken the original Direct Out and made it a TRS cable jack. This now becomes your effects loop. The Direct output no longer functions with our mod. So, for a two-amp setup, get our Framptone Amp Switcher!!! (You’ll thank yourself if you do..., but that’s another pedal manual!)

Here a Chorus pedal is connected to the loop. As your original guitar signal stays clean and unaffected, the repeats become more and more "chorused." Insert multiple effects and you’re in modulation heaven! Use an auto-wah and each repeat gets more and more "wahed"... use a pitch shifter and each repeated sound gets more "pitch shifted."

Now it’s simple to build an impressive and useful array of sounds. You are not in a wash of effects, rather you are creating music with the perfect amount of modulation or other effect applied to your delay. Think beautiful waterfall sounds! Slight phasing and flanging are incredible through the DD-3 effects loop, and can inspire you to make some pretty inventive music! Add another delay to the loop and you get an unusual, asynchronous repeat that turns to a cool stutter and motor-boating. Add a tremolo and you can hear some great swells, almost a "Slow Gear" effect! Please note that if you only hear a few repeats and the repeats stop abruptly, your loop cable routing is likely set up improperly or a pedal in you loop may have a bad battery, etc.
